27. A New Revell-ation
It was a direct result of my career that Jill and I were able to find a new home after we lost the house. One of my clients owned several beautiful apartments in Rockford. These apartments were well maintained, in good neighborhoods, and were affordable. This led us to our current home.
We were able to speak with Mark and explain our situation he was kind enough to allow us to rent one of his nicer apartments. We didn’t realize it when we were setting it up, but this apartment would wind up being one of the best places we have ever lived.
The location couldn’t better, located 1 block from the hospital that Mom and I both were treated at. It’s also close to a Walgreens, numerous restaraunts, the river district, the Metro Center, and most importantly to a couple of non-drivers, the bus route. We couldn’t have asked for a better location.
Gorgeous hardwood floors, newly remodeled kitchen, brand new appliances, washer and dryer hookups, two bedrooms, all for under $600.00 It’s a great apartment. We love the big backyard too.
Our actual move was quite a deal. We had made arrangements with the electric company to turn off the power at the house on September 30th, well September 20th came along and the lights went out. When we called them up they said they were sorry and we could have power restored in about four days. Since we were moving on the 30th we told them not to bother and called Mark. The apartment was empty and in move in condition. GREAT! Now, how do we get us and all our stuff over there…
Well, we have a really good friend who lives about an hour away who also owns a covered trailer. We called him up at about 6:00 in the afternoon and asked for help. He came along with his grandson and his trailer. We loaded up as much stuff as we could fit, which was almost everything.
They came back over the next day and helped us move what was left including the cat, the dog, the two rats, and the 50 gallon fish tank.
His grandson David worked his tail off. He did great for a 15 year old. Because of my injury and the fact that Jill has a bad back we did what we could, but David deserves the credit for most of it.
That first night we got to bed about the time the sun came up and while we might have been completely exhausted, we were happy to be in such a beautiful new place.
