| RANK | TITLE | ARTIST | COMMENTS | BUY | VID |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 001 | Yesterday | Beatles, The | I find this to be my #1 because not only is it a great tune, but because of its simplicity and sincerity it has been covered by more bands than any other song in history. |
| 002 | Mama I'm Coming Home | Osbourne, Ozzy | This was nearly my #1, its gorgeous, how can you not love Ozzy's voice? |
| 003 | Stairway to Heaven | Led Zeppelin | Do me a favor, after you buy this song, open it in your media player of choice and either put on your best headphones, or crank your speaker volume WAY up, then go lay on the floor in the middle of the room with your eyes closed. Think I'm crazy? Try it, and you'll see my point. |
| 004 | Bell Bottom Blues | Derek and the Dominos | A love song from the heart, Eric Clapton is BEGGING George Harrison's wife Patty to be with him. |
| 005 | Layla | Derek & The Dominos | Yet another love song for Patty, this one includes arguably the best guitar solo ever played. |
| 006 | Imagine | Lennon, John | Utopia in a song. This is a sweet plea of peace from a man who was sadly taken from life just when he had discovered how to enjoy it. |
| 007 | Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End | Beatles, The | On the Abbey
Road album these are technically three separate songs, however in my
opinion they should be enjoyed as one. The video is Paul McCartney solo, but it is the only video I can find that has all three songs together by an original Beatle. |
| 008 | Remember When | Jackson, Alan | This is the sweetest, most heart felt love song I have ever heard. You can tell by listening to how he sings it that he has been in love with his wife for a very long time, and doesn't plan on stopping any time soon. |
| 009 | Wonderful Tonight | Clapton, Eric | Hmm, let's see... why is this a great song? It's Eric Clapton, and its a love song... that about sums it up. |
| 010 | Funeral For A Friend (Love Lies Bleeding) | John, Elton | For many years I was instructed that when my mother died, this song was to be played as we released her ashes, she was to be cremated. So we did. This song is on my list because, yes it is a great song, but it carries significant emotional value as well. |
| 011 | Free Bird | Lynyrd Skynyrd | ...do I have to explain? Listen and figure it out for yourself. |
| 012 | Tears In Heaven | Clapton, Eric | From tragedy beauty can come. Written after his young son fell from a seven storey window Eric shares his pain with the rest of us. |
| 013 | Hotel California | Eagles, The | One of the original supergroups, The Eagles never did a bad song, this, however has to be their best. |
| 014 | While My Guitar Gently Weeps | Beatles, The | There does not need to be a reason for any Beatles song to be on my list, but this one was chosen because it just might be the best, except for "Yesterday" which as you can see is #1 on my list of all time. |
| 015 | Man in the Mirror | Jackson, Michael | When I started this project Michael was still alive. Since his death this song is even more haunting of the life he lived. It's a beautiful song, and is undoubtedly deserving of being on my top list. For the record, I do not believe he did those awful things to kids, he was too childlike himself to be that way. |
| 016 | A Whiter Shade Of Pale | Lennox, Annie | Annie has one of the most gorgeous voices in music, and she uses it here to breathe life into this great song, and to think, its all about cocaine! |
| 017 | Angel | McLachlan, Sarah | I can't really explain why I like this one, other than its just plain beautiful. |
| 018 | Life's Been Good | Walsh, Joe | I'm a sucker for a great guitar player, and Joe Walsh is in my top five of those. This in my opinion is his best solo release. |
| 019 | Wind Of Change | Scorpions | At my high school reunion we chose our own songs to walk down the aisle to since there was only 6 of us. We were a close bunch and one of my closest friends used this song. Oh, and whistle part is REALLY cool too. |
| 020 | All For Love | Adams, Bryan, Sting & Rod Stewart | I fell in love with this song along with "The Three Musketeers" (the movie it was written for). These three sound excellent together, its a shame they haven't worked together otherwise. |
| 021 | More Than Words | Extreme | The proof of a great band is diversity. Extreme is a heavy hair band that came out with this simple acoustic beauty and proved themselves worthy of 80's glory. |
| 022 | I Love You Goodbye | Dolby, Thomas | Far from
"Weird Science" this is a full, rounded beauty that shows Dolby's
genius. The video is not the official video, but is very well done. |
| 023 | Sweet Home Alabama | Lynyrd Skynyrd | As Free Bird needed no explanation, neither does this song. Listen, and learn... |
| 024 | Some People Change | Montgomery Gentry | A great song of how God can change a person, it is close to me because I can see myself so clearly in the second verse. |
| 025 | The Pretender | Browne, Jackson | I love Jackson's voice, but beyond that this song speaks to everyone. Every couple has "their song" This was my mom and step-father's song, oh, and we lived in the shade of the freeway (35W in Minneapolis) |
| 026 | Breathe | Hill, Faith | Faith is a knockout, the song is beautiful, and the video... well... see for yourself. |
| 027 | Sweet Dreams | Eurythmics | Why do I love this song? For the same reason you do, that catchy base beat, and Annie's sultry voice. |
| 028 | I Can Hear Music | Beach Boys, The | There is nothing better than full, rich instrumentals along with perfect harmony. The Beach Boys were masters of this art. |
| 029 | Feel Then Nails | Boltz, Ray | I believe in God, and I know Jesus died on that cross for my salvation. This song is an anthem of that faith, and the video that goes along with it here is done beautifully using scenes from "Passion of the Christ" |
| 030 | Darling Pretty | Knopfler, Mark | Yet again, I'm a sucker for a great guitarist. Mark Kopfler is definately one. This is a gorgeous song that demonstrates not only his guitar prowess, but the sexiness of his voice. |
| 031 | Woman | Lennon, John | The message of love and appreciation in this song would make any woman's heart melt, the only tarnish on this song is that it was written for Yoko Ono. |
| 032 | Awesome God (Single) | Carman | Turn up the
volume and give yourself to the Lord while you listen, by the end I
know you will be on your knees with tears in your eyes, don't be
ashamed, I do it too. The scripture in the beginning is Revelation 21:6-7 |
| 033 | I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) | Meat Loaf | This is the ultimate rock opera. Not bad for a man named "Marvin". I really can't blame him for changing his name. |
| 034 | It's All Coming Back to Me Now | Dion, Celine | Celine may be full of herself, but she can belt it out. Here she sings to a Meat Loaf song and does possibly a better job than he did. |
| 035 | Total Eclipse Of The Heart | Tyler, Bonnie | This is a great song for 1. It was written by the same guy who writes for Meat Loaf 2. A gravely voiced sexy female sings it, that's all we need to know. |
| 036 | East To West | Casting Crowns | I love Casting Crowns, so choosing a song or two to put on my top 500 was hard. |
| 037 | Good Vibrations | Beach Boys, The | Remember what I said about perfect harmonies? This is a perfect example. |
| 038 | Jump | Van Halen | Van halen is
not the same without Diamond Dave, this song is a prime example of
what I mean. He brings a lot of fun to the song, along with Eddie's
keyboards, this is a great rocker. Oh, and Dave can do the splits in those tight pants, gotta love that |
| 039 | Something | Beatles, The | A beautiful ballad written by George Harrison while the group was still together. He was truly showing his great abilities by the end of their careers together. Ironic isn't it that this song is written for the same woman songs #4, 5, and 9 were? |
| 040 | Bring The Rain | MercyMe | To enjoy
happiness, there must be some sadness, and to appreciate light,
there has to be darkness. Bring the rain indeed. I was not able to find the official video, but this one is very cool. |
| 041 | Black Velvet | Myles, Alannah | Who doesn't love this song? A great beat, cool guitar, and its about the King (Elvis). |
| 042 | Sharp Dressed Man | ZZ Top | Anything off the "Eliminator" disc would have filled this spot, and many others, but I wanted to give other artists a shot at my list. |
| 043 | You Raise Me Up | Selah | This song has been covered by many, this is the best version I have found. I find this to be one of my all time favorite worship songs. |
| 044 | Stand By Me | Ben E. King | This is a timeless classic, and the movie is stellar. |
| 045 | Only The Good Die Young | Joel, Billy | The truth of the title is disconcerting. Billy has a way with words that can not be matched. |
| 046 | Play Something Country | Brooks & Dunn | Just a great party song, and I happen to be a country fan, so it speaks to me. |
| 047 | Hands To Heaven | Breathe | Yes, Christians can write love songs, and this is one of the lovliest I have every heard. |
| 048 | A Different World | Covington, Bucky | I love this song because it is so true. Even my generation lived this way. Kids these days are coddled like fragile eggs, and I think it will prove to be a great harm when they get into the real world. |
| 049 | Take On Me | A-Ha | Poppy and
Swedish, what else can you ask for in a great '80's song? Here is the Family Guy version |
| 050 | The Final Countdown | Europe | I can't really explain why I like this one that much, other than its an '80's hair band classic. |
